Portland Public Library and Portland Stage continue Page to Stage series

Portland Public Library and Portland Stage continue Page to Stage series
with a discussion about “Red
Tuesday, March 31st at noon in the Rines Auditorium
Portland, Maine - Portland Public Library continues the Page to Stage discussion series in partnership with Portland Stage on Tuesday, March 31st in the Rines Auditorium with a conversation about “Red” by Matthew Lopez. Portland Stage’s performance of the play will be discussed, along with the underlying questions in the play does art need to challenge us and make us feel in order to be art?”

Red is visually stunning drama that squares off abstract painter Mark Rothko against his young assistant in a battle over art and its role in our lives. Juxtaposing the series of commissioned paintings Rothko is creating with discussions of politics, idealism, and tragedy, this Tony Award-winning play exposes the artist’s process in all its power and intimacy.

Page to Stage is an opportunity to engage in questions about the plays, playwrights, and ideas presented on Portland Stage Company’s Main Stage.  The discussion is facilitated by Portland Stage artistic staff and free and open to the public.
