Lewiston, Maine - Kristen M. Schwindt-Brown, M.D. has joined the staff and faculty at the Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency in Lewiston.
“Dr. Brown has a gift and great enthusiasm for providing care to young people. She is also focused on connecting with our community to help all kids maintain good health,” says Raj Woolever, M.D., the residency’s program director.
“Teaching the next generation of physicians to care for children is both a privilege and passion for me. It is essential for the health of our community that its youngest members get the care, advocacy, and support they deserve,” Brown says.
Originally from North Dakota, Brown completed her undergraduate studies at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., in 1997 and earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2002. She served an internship and residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Brown has held numerous clinical positions, working at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the
Greater Baltimore Medical Center, both located in Baltimore, as well as the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.
Between 2005 and 2007, while at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she mentored and supervised pediatrics residents and other medical students from the hospital’s associated medical school. She has also supervised residents and medical students from the Madigan Army Medical Center Pediatrics Department, as well as the Uniformed Services University of the Health Services in Bethesda, Md.
Brown is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In 2005, she contributed an article on pediatric dermatology to the 17th edition of “The Harriet Lane Handbook”. In 2006, she was named pediatrics teacher of the year by the Johns Hopkins Department of Pediatrics.
CMMC created the Family Medicine Residency Program in 1978 to support the training of family physicians in order to provide skilled family doctors to the Lewiston-Auburn area, as well as to other areas of Maine. Previous graduates of the CMMC Family Medicine Residency Program include a number of physicians who practice in Maine.
