Ellsworth, Maine - The “Live in HD” high-definition simulcast series of productions from The New York Metropolitan Opera continues its 2014 – 2015 season at The Grand on March 14th at 1 pm with a presentation of Goachino Rossini's bel canto classic La Donna Del Lago. Set in the Scottish highlands, this production shows off American operatic lyric-coloratura mezzo-soprano Joyce Di Donato as the title character. Tickets are $26.00 for adults, $24.00 for Grand members and $19.00 for students (15 and under).
“The Met: Live in HD,” the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live transmissions
offering a significant portion of the Met season to DownEast and MidCoast Maine communities, continues its ninth season with this Met premiere. The opera by Gioachino Rossini with a libretto by Andrea Leone Tottola is based on the French translation of The Lady of the Lake, a narrative poem written in 1810 by Sir Walter Scott. This production features Di Donato as the title character and Peruvian operatic tenor Juan Diego Flórez as the king who relentlessly pursues her, with their vocal fireworks embellishing the tragic plot. The production also stars the Italian mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona in the “pants role” of Malcolm, American operatic tenor John Osborn as the rebel Rodrigo and American bass Oren Gradus as Duglas. The Scottish director Paul Curran is supported by Set and Costume Designer Kevin Knight, Lighting Designer Duane Schuler, and Projection Designer Driscoll Otto. Michele Mariotti conducts.
