Trekkers Announces Upcoming Events

Thomaston, Maine - Trekkers have announced upcoming events that will be taken place during the months of June, July and August. List of events are below:

1.Pedal to the Port 2014- Coastal Bicycle Ride to Benefit Trekkers, August 17

What:              Pedal to the Port 2014

When:              Sunday, August 17th, 2014

Where:             American Legion Hall

                        Thomaston, ME 04861

Schedule:        Registration: 7:30am - 9am

                        Ride: 9am

                        Cookout: 11am - 2pm

Routes:            8, 35 and 45 mile options

Who:               Hosted by Trekkers, a youth mentoring nonprofit based in Thomaston

Purpose:          To provide crucial funding for Trekkers’ youth mentoring programs

Registration:    FREE registration for riders of teams of four or more members. Registration is $25 for individual riders.

                        All riders are expected to raise a minimum of $100 in pledges

2. Trekkers Tech Talks, August 27

Location: The Strand Theatre, Rockland.  Two Topics, Two talks. From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. -"Data
Permanence in the New Digital Age: Having 'The Talk' with Your Kids (but not the one you're thinking about).  Tickets: 7 for adults, students free. From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - "Head in the Clouds: The Internet's Next Five Billion and World Politics" .  Tickets: $10 each. Presenting SCOTT CARPENTER - Deputy Director of Google Ideas where he drives implementation of the team’s overall strategy and manages the portfolios addressing illicit networks. 3. Water Dog Tavern hosting Trekkers Fundraiser on June 28 with Cuban dance Music from Primo Cubano

Water Dog Tavern is excited to host a Trekkers fundraiser with traditional Cuban dance music from Primo Cubano, on June 28th, 2014 at 8:30 pm. The event will be held at 1 Starr Street in Thomaston, ME. A donation of $8 is requested which will benefit Trekkers, a non-profit, outdoor-based mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education.

4. 11th Annual Law Enforcement Golf Classic to Benefit Trekkers’ Youth Programs, July 13

Officer Tim Hoppe of the Thomaston Police Department is announcing that the 11th annual Law Enforcement Golf Classic will be held at the Rockland Golf Club on July 13th.  Each year, proceeds from the Law Enforcement Golf Classic support local youth organizations in the Midcoast. In keeping with the mission of this event, this year’s 18-hole event will benefit the youth programs of the Trekkers organization.

The format for the event will be best ball play. Registration for participants will begin at 12 p.m., with tee off beginning at 1 p.m. The individual registration is $80 dollars per player or $300 per foursome.  The Golf Classic will include cash prizes, food and fun. 5. Trekkers to Host Paul Theroux on July 16th as Part of 20th Anniversary Celebration

Trekkers, a local youth mentoring organization, will welcome travel writer and novelist Paul Theroux to the Midcoast this summer as part of its 20th anniversary event at the Strand Theatre on July 16th. Theroux is most widely recognized for his witty and thought-provoking writing about issues abroad, oftentimes in less traveled destinations such as western Africa and Asia. In designing the 20th anniversary celebration, Trekkers recognized similarities between its focus on expeditionary learning and travel-based education, and Mr. Theroux’s enthusiasm for travel and cultural exploration. Tickets for the public event/general seating is $20. Tickets are also available for a pre-event reception with the writer, including preferred seating at the Strand Theatre for $45. The event will conclude with a question and answer session and a book signing by Mr. Theroux. All proceeds benefit Trekkers’ youth mentoring programs. 6. Trekkers B.U.O.Y Project Gallery Opening on July 1:

Since 1994, Trekkers has been Building Up Our Youth through its outdoor-based mentoring programs. To celebrate this historic milestone, 50 artists with ties to Maine are participating in Trekkers’ first ever B.U.O.Y. Auction. Using collage, fabric, paint, ink, metal, wood, rope and other media, the artists have expressed their individual styles and personalized their wooden lobster pot buoys. Buoys will be on display at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in July, with a gallery opening to honor the artists on Tuesday, July 1st from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Forty buoys will be part of an online auction on BiddingforGood.com from July 1 through July 21. The other 10 buoys will be auctioned off as part of the live event at the Strand Theatre on July 16.
