Meet the Georges River Land Trust Artist in Residence

Rockland, Maine – The Georges River Land Trust and the K2 Family Foundation will introduce their 2014 Artist in Residence to the public at the Highlands Coffee House, Main Street, Thomaston, on Monday, June 23, doors open at 6:00 pm with a presentation at 6:30 pm. Barbara Bosworth of Stow, Massachusetts, was selected for the second year of the artist in residence program, which offers professional visual artists, performing artists, and writers the opportunity to pursue their artistic disciplines while being inspired by the Georges River watershed’s extraordinary landscapes.

Bosworth will spend the bulk her eight weeks of residency in the Georges River watershed from June to August.  During her residency, Bosworth will make herself available to the public in in two additional events, including a “deep looking” workshop and a guided conversation about contemporary landscape photography. The event on June 23 will provide the opportunity to introduce her past artistic work and meet watershed residents.

Bosworth was chosen from more than 25 applicants to be the second artist in residence. She names the
deep forest surrounding her family’s home as the earliest influence on her photography. She works like a naturalist, collecting specimens of flora and fauna, tracing the profiles of mountains and rivers, taking careful measure of the world with her lens. Rather than a simple accumulation of facts, however, her photographs describe a world far richer than the sum of its parts. Her prints, made exclusively with a large-format view camera, capture the afternoon light shimmering though the forest canopy or the mercury-like surface of a river with elegance and emotional resonance.
