Maine: Beyond the Usual

BLUE HILL, Maine - Longtime Orono residents Marisue and John Pickering will share photographs and short essays from their new book, Maine Beyond the Usual: A Travel Guide at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 PM. Published in 2013 by Maine Authors Publishing in Rockland, Maine – Beyond the Usual takes travelers to 50 “beyond the usual” Maine sites, each presented through John’s photographs and Marisue’s short essays.


The Pickerings both have decades of experiences as educators and a shared interest in exploring Maine’s historical and cultural heritage as well as its natural world. John has taught at both elementary and university levels, including the University of Maine’s College of Education and Human Development.  Marisue is a University of Maine Professor Emerita. John's photographs have appeared in International Travel News, institutional newsletters, and other media. Marisue’s travel essays have appeared in Echoes, The Maine Scholar, Northern New England Review, Route 66 Magazine, Episcopal Life, and International Travel News.
