ROCKLAND, ME - The annual Maine Lobster Festival took place August 3rd to the 7th. This year's festival was at Harbor Park overlooking a beautiful harbor and breakwater lighthouse 1 1/2 hours north of Portland, Me. From August 3rd to the 7th was filled with events for the whole family such as, Coronation of a new Sea Goddess to the Great International William Atwood Lobster Crate Race.
The Maine Lobster Festival opening day featured the Coronation practice and Coronation of a new Sea Goddess. At 12pm the festival officially opened with King Neptune, his court and the 2010 Sea Goddess, Emily Benner arriving from the briny deep. King Neptune and his court went to the flagpole as Blackbeard raised the flag marking the opening of this year's festival. Also, at the same time the 2011 Sea Princesses had a practice to get ready for that night's Sea Goddess Coronation.
Sea Goddess Coronation is a tradition of the Maine Lobster Festival where one of the 18 young women wins Sea Goddess. During the coronation another two young women will win Crown Princess and Miss Congeniality. This year's winners were, Brittany Anne Young of South Thomaston, Miss Congeniality, Kelly Leidenroth of Warren, Crown Princess and Kristen Sawyer of Tenants Harbor our new 2011 Sea Goddess. All the young women did an amazing job as leading up to Coronation was all about learning such as, Lobstering, Rockland and etiquette, just to name a few. In attendance were 2010 Crown Princesses, members of the Coast Guard, Navy members, family and friends. Eric Hebert was this year's MC for the Sea Goddess Coronation.
Opening day also featured people lining up for lobster in the Eating tent, where the line was almost halfway up the hill. Other things that took place on Wednesday were, booking signings, face painting by GVHS, Musicians performing and of course lots of fun for the whole family.

Finally, Saturday brought with it a Blindfold Row Boat Race and performances by Kelly Parker Band opening for Uncle Kreaker along with a parade down main street in the morning. Sunday was not a fun day to be out for the Children's 1 mile and adult 10k as rain filled the sky. However, the upside to the rain is it kept the runners cooled off. During the Children's 1 mile it was mostly cloudy with the rain hitting for the Adult 10k.
