ROCKLAND, ME - The 64th annual Maine Lobster Festival will be held from 3rd to the 7th of August this year. This years festival promises to have things the whole family can enjoy. Each year the festival is held at Rockland's harbor park for 5 days of fun. The festival will have food, rides, Sea Goddess Coronation (opening night), musical acts, book signings, big parade, crate race, tours of the Coast Guard Station, rescue boats, tour of the Navy ship USS Mahan (DDG72) and much more.
On Wednesday, August 3rd is "Hometown Day" where admission is free for all during the whole day. Events on Wednesday are, Kathleen Heckel book signing of Golden Rule, festival officially opens, 12 noon, along with exhibition tents, booths, vendors, carnival rides and games. Also, lobster serving begins in the Eating Tent. King Neptune and his court, along with Emily Benner, the 2010 Maine Sea Goddess, arrive from the briny deep to raise the flag and officially open the 2011 Maine Lobster Festival. Opening ceremonies will take place next to the flagpole in front of the Harbor Master’s building. Face painting by GVHS from 1 to 3pm. Bay Wind will perform on the Main Stage at 3:00pm and Paddy Mills in the North Entertainment Tent from 4 to 6pm. You can't miss the Sea Goddess Coronation on the Main Stage starting at 8pm. These are just some of the events happening on Wednesday, opening day.
Thursday's events are, pancake breakfast, tours on the Navy ship, Coast Guard Station and rescue boats, Headstart performs in the North Entertainment Tent. There will be a "Changes In Latitudes" band, a America premier Jimmy Buffett tribute show, on the Main Stage at 7:30pm.
Events on Friday are, Maine seafood cooking contest, children's parade, John McDonald performs in the North Entertainment Tent at 1pm and Veayo Twins opening for Emerson Drive at 7:30pm on the Main Stage.
A big parade down Main Street on Saturday at 10am will be something not to be missed, as there will be floats, bands, Sea Princesses with their escorts and the 2011 Maine Sea Goddess, just to name a few that will be in the parade. Other events happening on Saturday are, bands performing such as, Mojo Big Band, Adam & the Waxmen and Uncle Krackers with Kelly Parker band opening.
The final day, Sunday will be busy with just some of the following events, children's 1 mile fun run, 10k road race, Cod fish carry, "Little Lobster" diaper derby and The Great International William Atwood Lobster crate race.
