Castine, Maine - The Castine Arts Association has announced the dates for its third annual Plein Air Festival. This year’s festival will again be a three-day event to be held on July 23rd, 24th and 25th in Castine (Maine). Forty juried artists will participate in this year’s art festival. Activities will commence with artist registration on the morning of Thursday, July 23rd beginning at 7:30am at the Castine Town Common on Court Street. Over the course of the three-day festival, the public will have the opportunity to observe and visit these artists as they paint their interpretations of Castine’s waterfront, Federal architecture, forts, and other landscapes. Many of America's most famous artists have been painting the beauty and history of Castine for over 300 years.
The event will conclude on the afternoon of July 25th with judging and an exhibition, followed by a sale of the original art created over the three-day festival. The public is cordially invited to attend the sale and reception, hosted by the Castine Arts Association. As a change from prior years, the reception/sale will begin at 4PM on Saturday, July 26th at the Maine Maritime Academy’s Harborview Room. All art created during the festival will be framed, on display, and available for purchase. Admission for the three-day event, including the sale and reception, is free to the public.

Bay Chamber Concerts Announces Sponsorship of Third Annual “Great Cabin Fever Escape Show”
The Wiyos have been rolling for over a decade. They were one of the first "old-timey" bands to emerge on the national scene in the first wave of acoustic bands riding the renewed popularity of early swing jazz, rural folk, old-time blues and Appalachian music. Touring in the US and Europe, and numerous critically acclaimed albums and EPs, landed them a full 28-day summer tour as openers of the 2009 Bob Dylan Show. The Wiyos were also featured in the BBC television documentary, "Folk America - Hollerers, Stompers and Old-Time Ramblers".
Opening the evening are special guests, Midcoast's own, The Dolphin Strikers and DJ Terry Frank. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of show. This performance is 21+ with positive ID required at the event. There will be a cash bar and prize giveaways. Third Annual Holiday at Hadlock Set for December 7th
Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs in partnership with 99.9 FM The WOLF will host the third annual Holiday at Hadlock event on Saturday, December 7th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The Sea Dogs will turn the place of summer memories into a winter wonderland. The free event, open to the public, will be highlighted by Santa's arrival from the North Pole via Elf One.
Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at Hadlock Field from the North Pole via Elf One, a helicopter owned and operated by Acadian seaplanes, at 11:00 AM. Santa is scheduled to land at second base. Santa will then be available to meet with children until 2:00 PM, free of charge.
"This event continues to grow each year," said Sea Dogs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Geoff Iacuessa. "We are proud to host a free family holiday event for the community."
New this year will be a petting zoo, where you will be able to pet a real live Reindeer. "Freeway" the Reindeer, one of Santa's special reindeer, will be at Hadlock Field thanks to our friends at Pony X-Press in Waterville.
Other festivities include horse drawn carriage rides around the field, courtesy of Carousel Horse Farm in Casco, Maine, free cookies and hot chocolate, and free build your own S'Mores station. There will be an arts & crafts room where fans can decorate game used baseballs turning them into unique Christmas tree ornaments. Face painters and balloon artists from Party Palooga, presented by Five County Credit Union, will also be on hand.
The Sea Dogs' mascot band; The Kastaways will be performing live singing some of your favorite holiday tunes. Other entertainment acts will also be performing throughout the day.
Additionally, the Sea Dogs will be collecting Toys-for-Tots. Fans are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to donate. A truck courtesy of Southern Maine Motors will be parked in front of the ballpark to collect donations.
Additionally, fans will be able to get a head start on their holiday shopping as both the Sea Dogs' Ticket Office and Souvenir Shop will be open to allow fans to give the gift of summer this winter.
The Sea Dogs open the 2014 season on the road in Reading, Pennsylvania on April 3rd. The home opener is set for Thursday, April 10th at 6:00 PM against the New Britain Rock Cats. Governor LePage and First Lady Welcome Mainers, Donations at Third Annual Blaine House Food Drive
The food drives will take place on three consecutive Saturday’s during the month of October, which are Oct. 12, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26. Mainers will have an opportunity to bring a food donation, receive a tour of the Blaine House led by Governor LePage and enjoy light refreshments.
“As our holiday season approaches, it is very important that we remember those who are less fortunate and are trying to get on their feet,” said Governor LePage. “The First Lady and I recognize how meaningful these food donations can be to those individuals in trying circumstances. Mainers are generous people, and it is heartwarming to see to see so many who are willing to help their neighbors in need. The First Lady and I are happy to open the Blaine House for another food drive this year.”
All donations collected at the Blaine House will be given to Good Shepherd Food-Bank. Good Shepherd Food-Bank will determine the communities that need the food most and distribute the donations.
“Governor and First Lady LePage are setting a great example for Mainers to get involved in the fight against hunger,” said Kristen Miale, president of Good Shepherd Food Bank. “Hunger is a significant problem in Maine with 15 percent of households not able to access enough nutritious food. We thank the First Family for making a different in the lives of families struggling with hunger and encouraging others to do the same.”
Doors will be open at the Blaine House for the food drive between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on October 12, October 19 and October 26.
