Final Lighthouse Legends Boat Tour for the Season Set for Oct. 29

Just in time for a bit of Halloween season fun, the Lighthouse Legends and Lore boat excursion, hosted by Maine Maritime Museum and Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, will be offering the final tour of the 2017 season on Sunday, October 29.

The popular tour offers guests tales of lighthouse history, mystery and haunts while enjoying a boat excursion that visits a number of area lighthouses, and includes a landing on Burnt Island and exploration of the haunted light station there.

A portion of the proceeds from the Lighthouse Legends and Lore cruises will go to benefit the restoration campaign at the historic Burnt Island lighthouse offshore of Boothbay Harbor.

The cruise departs from the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath at 2 p.m. aboard the museum excursion vessel Merrymeeting.

Passengers aboard the Lighthouse Legends and Lore Cruises will see up to seven lighthouses, depending on weather and sea conditions. Those destinations could include Doubling Point Light, Hendricks Head Light, Seguin Island Light, Ram Island Light and The Cuckolds. The visit to Burnt Island will include landing on the island for an up-close look at the keeper’s house and other facilities, including the majestic Burnt Island Light tower.

Guests will learn the stories behind these iconic beacons; about the lives of some of the keepers and their families - daily routines, traditions and hardships, as well as the legends and lore surrounding them.

The tours will be guided by Sally Lobkowicz, the mysterious Lady in the Red Cloak from Red Cloak Haunted History Tours.

Participants will return to shore with a new and very personal understanding of the lighthouses, and the people who manned them. Stories will be told of the lives saved by these humble keepers while enduring personal privation and their own physical limits as they offered those who went to the sea in ships a hopeful light toward home.

Guests are welcome to bring aboard food and non-alcoholic beverages. A cash bar, with light snacks, is available onboard.

Cruise prices are: Members $52; nonmembers $65; children 6 to 12 $42; under 6 $5. (Price includes museum admission.)

Space is limited, so advance reservations are required for these exclusive tours.
Reservations for the cruises are available through Maine Maritime Museum, at http://www.mainemaritimemuseum.org/events/lighthouse-legends-and-lore-cruise-september-30/ or by calling 207-443-1316.

Last Oak Grove Cemetery Tour of the Halloween Season Oct. 29

Sally Lobkowicz, The Lady in the Red Cloak (right) leads a Famed Captains and Shipbuilders at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath. Guests for the Famed Captains and Shipbuilders tours board a trolley (seen at left) at Maine Maritime Museum and travel through the Oak Grove Cemetery to visit the headstones and memorials marking the grave sites of Bath's most historic seafaring captains and shore-based shipbuilders. The final tour of the 2016 season is on October 29. The special tours are in cooperation with the Maine Maritime Museum and sponsored by Cahill Tire.
A visit to the final resting places of historic Bath area sea captains and shipbuilders will be the focus of a trolley tour hosted by Maine Maritime Museum and led by The Lady in the Red Cloak on Saturday, October 29 at 4 p.m. The event will be the last chance for the public to enjoy this fascinating and educational tour for the 2016 season.

The Famed Captains and Shipbuilders tour begins at Maine Maritime Museum, where participants will board a trolley that will take them past grand homes where Bath's leading families once resided. The journey stops at Oak Grove Cemetery, where guests will be guided through the lush grounds by Sally Lobkowicz, The Lady in the Red Cloak from Red Cloak Haunted History Tours. Participants will visit the headstones and memorials marking the grave sites of Bath's most historic seafaring captains and shore-based shipbuilders.

Tales of perseverance and pluck will be told in relating the daring adventures of area seafarers, and the initiative and ingenuity shown by the shipbuilders who built the ocean-going vessels that brought Bath much of its early wealth.

The stories won't be limited to the masculine side of seafaring and shipbuilding. Women, often in leadership roles, were important participants in the nautical history of Bath, and their stories will be told as well, while guests visit their burial plots.

The tours depart from Maine Maritime Museum at 4 p.m. Seating is limited, and the tour has been popular in the past, so early reservations are recommended.

Reservations can be made by telephoning 207-443-1316 or online by visiting mainemaritimemuseum.org and clicking on the Events tab, then using the menu to go to Special Events section.

For guests on the tour interested in learning more about Bath's haunted past, and open to the public, a Red Cloak Haunted History walking tour is scheduled for 7 p.m. the same evening.

Information on this and other Red Cloak Haunted History Tours is available by telephone at 207-380-3806 or check online at redcloakhauntedhistorytours.com. The company also has evening walking tours in Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Hallowell, Rockland, Camden and Bar Harbor.

The Famed Captains and Shipbuilders tours are sponsored by Cahill Tire, generously allowing the proceeds to benefit the efforts and activities of the Maine Maritime Museum.

Presentation on Local Haunts and Paranormal Exploration to Benefit Burnt Island

A  paranormal phenomenon known as an "orb" photographed at the Ancient Burial Ground in Wiscasset. Orbs and other paranormal phenomenon, as well as the methods and equipment used to study them, will be among the subjects covered at an October 8 presentation at the Boothbay Harbor Inn. The presentation is a fundraiser for the Burnt Island Light restoration.
Local author Greg Latimer and Sally Lobkowicz of Red Cloak Haunted History Tours will host a presentation on area haunted locations and a discussion on paranormal research methods they have used both locally and in distant locations, such as the Johnny Cash house in Jamaica and Virginia City, Nevada.
The event will benefit the restoration efforts at Burnt Island Lighthouse in Boothbay Harbor, which is also one of the haunted locations to be included in the presentation. A donation box will be out, with attendees asked to make a suggested donation of $2. to $5.
Two books written by Latimer, "Haunted Damariscotta" and "Ghosts of the Boothbay Region" will be on sale, with $2. from the price of each book going to benefit the lighthouse. Anyone who already owns one of these books is invited to bring it in for a signature from Latimer.
The event will be hosted by the Boothbay Harbor Inn on Saturday, October 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Inn's Great Room, a well-appointed social area.
As well as Burnt Island Lighthouse, Latimer and Lobkowicz will discuss the surprising number of haunts reported in the Boothbay Harbor in-town area.
A selection of equipment used for paranormal exploration will be available, and the purpose of these instruments as well as their operation will be part of the presentation. Guests will have a chance to experience "hands on" use of these devices, and will have the opportunity to learn about a free paranormal detection app that can be downloaded on a smart phone.
Once the guests are familiar with the equipment and the methods, Latimer and Lobkowicz will show video tapes of paranormal explorations they have performed; some documenting unexplainable phenomenon.
Open discussion will be encouraged throughout the event, and guests are invited to describe their own experiences with the paranormal.
The Boothbay Harbor Inn is located at 31 Atlantic Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. Signage at the location will direct guests to ample parking. Guests will have no problem locating the main entrance and will find the Great Room just down the entry hallway. For further information, contact Greg Latimer at 207-380-9912.

Camden Harbor Ghost Tour

Two ‘Ladies’ Host Camden Harbor Ghost Tour Aug. 29

Two well-known midcoast “ladies” have teamed up to offer a completely new way for guests to enjoy an evening cruise - a Camden Harbor Ghost Tour.

Sally Lobkowicz, the Lady in the Red Cloak of Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, will board the tour boat Lively Lady of Camden Harbor Cruises for a full moon excursion filled with tales of seacoast hauntings.

Motoring along under the moonlight, guests will hear chilling tales of ghosts, lost treasure, superstitions, area history, UFOs, lighthouse lore and perhaps see the apparition of a ghostly clipper ship said to haunt the waters of Penobscot Bay.

The Lively Lady is a wooden motor vessel designed as a lobster boat and built by Robert F. Rich at Bass Harbor Boatshop on Mount Desert Island in 1971. She is now operated by Camden Harbor Cruises.

Red Cloak Haunted History Tours is the largest company of its kind in Maine, with well-established tours in Bath, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Hallowell, Damariscotta, Rockland and Camden; and a new tour in Bar Harbor launched this season. The company opened in 2007, with Damariscotta as the first tour location. The lantern-lit walking tours led by the Lady in the Red Cloak opened in Camden in 2009.

The Camden Harbor Ghost Tour, a new concept for both companies, is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at 8:15 p.m. by reservation only, with limited space. To make a reservation by telephone contact Camden Harbor Cruises at 207-236-6672, or online through www.camdenharbortours.com.
