BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Morgan White matched her single-game high with seven goals to help lead the University of New England women's lacrosse team to a resounding 17-6 win over Western New England in Conference of New England action Friday evening (Mar. 28) at Blue Bolt Field.
The victory halted a four-game losing skid versus the Golden Bears for UNE, which improved its overall record to 3-6 while leveling its conference ledger at 1-1.
Leading 4-2 after one quarter of play, the Nor'easters separated themselves from the visitors with a 5-0 scoring margin in the second frame. White tallied three goals during the decisive spurt, while Ella Cloutier and Barrie Guertin added to the outburst with a goal apiece.
UNE would not let up after halftime, pulling away steadily and eventually forcing running time midway through the final quarter.
Sydney Balotin and Molly Henderson supported White's seven-goal effort with three each of their own. Chloe Ryan had a game-high three assists, and Meagan Donovan added a pair. Balotin (9) and White (6) combined for 15 of UNE's 17 draw controls. Halle Powers and Kaylee Lucas were credited with three ground balls apiece, while Vail Carruthers paced UNE with two caused turnovers.
Jenna Trafford finished with six stops in goal for the Nor'easters, who had a favorable stat sheet with positive margins in shots (29-22), draw controls (17-9) and ground balls (18-14).
WNE's attack was led by Lina Eves, who scored a trio of goals. Ella Henry notched a pair, and Lynsdey Bunnell had the other for the Golden Bears (2-6, 1-1).
The Nor'easters will return to action Tuesday (Apr. 1) with a 7 p.m. road contest at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
