Monks Drop Two at Colby-Sawyer

RINDGE, NH-Saint Joseph's College (8-8, 1-3) came up short in both games of Friday's doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer (6-13, 2-1), falling 12-2 in the opener and 5-3 in the nightcap at Pappas Field in Rindge, New Hampshire.

Game 1: Colby-Sawyer 12, Saint Joseph's 2

Colby-Sawyer set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first

inning on a two-run triple and sacrifice fly. The Chargers tacked on three more in the third, highlighted by an RBI double, and continued to add runs in each of the final four innings.

The Monks managed to get on the board in the third when Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME) delivered an RBI single, but weren't able to generate much more offense. Colby-Sawyer pounded out 13 hits and cruised to a dominant win.

Rex Hill earned the victory, allowing just two runs over six innings with four strikeouts. Padraig Mac Seain (Brookline, N.H.) took the loss for Saint Joseph's, giving up seven runs (five earned) in three innings.

Evan Dennis and Cooper O'Brien led the Chargers' offense with two RBIs each, while Dylan Brander (Merrimack, N.H.) had two hits and an RBI for the Monks.

Game 2: Colby-Sawyer 5, Saint Joseph's 3

The Monks put up more of a fight in game two but still came up short. Colby-Sawyer struck first in the opening frame with an RBI single. They added runs in the fifth and sixth to build a 4-0 lead while Mike Hogan kept the Monks' bats quiet.

Saint Joseph's made a late push, scoring twice in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by Connor Finn (Kingston, MA) and an RBI groundout from Luke Doughty (York, ME). They added another run in the eighth when Nick Villano (Peabody, MA)  drove in Ryan Kastle (Concord, NH), cutting the deficit to 4-3.

The Chargers responded with an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, and Jack Mullen closed it out in the ninth to seal the win.

Hogan (2-0) picked up the victory, while Logan Dee (1-1) took the loss despite a solid outing. Sean Roeger led Colby-Sawyer's offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Cooper O'Brien also collected three hits.
