Dance for a Cause: Thriller Dance Workshop

Camden, Maine - Each year, Kinetic Energy Alive Dance Productions offers workshops and classes to teach the local communities the iconic THRILLER dance from Michael Jackson's classic zombie music video from the 80's.  Keeping this tradition alive in it's 6th year, the company and those from the community who take the workshop, will perform on Pearl Street on October 31st at 7pm, Halloween, in a "flash mob" that has turned into a community favorite experience each year.

Usually surrounded by hundreds that come to trick-or-treat on Pearl Street in Camden (at the intersection of Miller and Pearl) K.E.A. Dance Crew shows up to make a mini show in the street, with support of the beloved fire and police departments, and entertains the community with dance.  This performance opportunity gives newcomers, and those who might not consider themselves dancers, a chance to perform as well, even if it's under the heavy Halloween make up, they are still supported, encouraged and celebrated as they get up to join in with the local dance company and perform the THRILLER dance!

This year, Director Kea Tesseyman has decided to put a cause behind her Annual Thriller moves:  " I
feel there are so many people who need help, support, confidence, love and community in this world, and they simply don't have it.  But we do.  We are so blessed to live in this community and I want to share what support we can round up with those in need.  We are donating our proceeds from our annual Thriller Workshop classes and flash mob to organizations that benefit and support those who are struggling with mental health illnesses & depression.  We are hoping to work with an organization that also supports suicide prevention and bring more awareness to our community about those that do struggle with depression.  For this workshop and future events, it is my hope to bring joy AND financial support to those in need.  I wouldn't be here today if I did not receive support, encouragement and help when I was struggling with depression and so I'd like to pay it forward and use what I have - dance - to help others."

The dance workshop where people can come and learn the THRILLER dance is October 27th, 4:30 - 6:30pm at Kinetic Energy Alive Dance Productions, located at 255 Molyneaux Road in Camden Maine.  Community members who join will be asked to donated anything - even just a $1 - for participation.  But it is free to anyone who can not afford to pay for the class.  Participants will learn an abbreviated version of the original dance in just two hours, and be invited to perform with the dance company on Halloween.

"I feel it is so important for those who can get up and dance to do so.  Showing that anyone can dance, they just have to try.  I'm here to help anyone dance who wants to.  It's what I have to share, so that's all I want to do - share dance every day of this life that I have."  Kea welcomes anyone and everyone to her studio to join in the fun community of dance she has built at her studio for the people of this community.
