Major Storm Approaching, NWS Issues High Wind Warnings For Maine, Sunday-Monday

Maine - With an approaching major storm, National Weather Service out of Gray and Caribou has issued high wind warnings starting tonight.

National Weather Service out of Caribou Statement:

A significant wind event expected late tonight through Monday
for all of northern and eastern Maine...

.Intensifying low pressure will pass west of the region late
tonight and Monday. This will result in damaging winds late
tonight and Monday, and the potential for widespread power
outages.

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 8 PM EDT
MONDAY...

* WINDS...Southeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. The
  wind will switch into the southwest Monday afternoon.

* TIMING...The wind will increase significantly after midnight
  tonight, and will continue through Monday.

* IMPACTS...The strong wind will blow down tree limbs and trees.
  Power outages are likely.

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM TO 2 PM EDT
MONDAY...

* WINDS...South 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Gusts to
  75 mph are expected along the immediate coast, the outer
  islands, and across the higher terrain.

* TIMING...The Wind will increase significantly after midnight
  tonight, and are forecast to continue into early Monday
  afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The Strong wind will blow down trees and tree limbs.
  Widespread power outages are likely.

...Strong winds expected tonight into Monday...

.A strong low pressure system will cut north through the Northeast
tonight and bring several periods of strong winds to the area. The
first will be with strong southeast winds developing around
midnight tonight. Gusts in excess of 50 to 60 mph will be possible
along and near the coast...as well as in the higher terrain and
northwest side of the White Mountains. A second period may develop
around mid morning...as the remnants of Philippe get wrapped into
the low pressure. This would mainly focus winds in excess of 60
mph along the Midcoast of Maine. Finally once winds shift to
westerly behind the low pressure...gusty winds will develop for
all areas. This may bring widespread wind gusts in excess of 40
mph and additional wind headlines may be necessary.

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 11 AM EDT
MONDAY...

The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 11 AM EDT
Monday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds...Southeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Timing...Winds will increase significantly late this evening
  and continue into early Monday.

* Impacts...Damaging winds may result in downed trees and power
  lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be
  difficult...especially for high profile vehicles.

Warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 11 AM EDT
Monday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

* Winds...Southeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing...Winds will increase significantly late this evening
  and continue into early Monday.

* Impacts...Damaging winds may result in downed trees and power
  lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Flash flood watches are still remain through the state of Maine.
