WOOLWICH, ME (October 27, 2017) — A collection of rare and unusual items never before placed on the market will be made available at a public auction to benefit Chop Point School on Sunday, November 5th, at 2:00 p.m., with public viewing beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The estate collection arrived from Texas and includes an eclectic variety of interesting and one-of-kind items. Highlighted among the objects offered is The Wooten Desk, widely considered the epitome of desk design and construction upon its introduction in the late 19th-century. The main body of the desk is filled with several dozen small drawers and nooks for papers and small objects. The desk is closed by two massive hinged panels which are as deep as the desk itself, and also filled with even more small drawers and nooks of all sizes.
Rounding out the must-see collection is an impressive array of country and formal furniture (including two interesting Scandinavian beds), tools, safes, a very rare antique Barber’s chair, cool spy-era gadgets, radios, unique glassware, china, artwork and much more.
This one-time offering is assembled to benefit Chop Point School, a K-12, interdenominational school set on a picturesque, 55-acre campus bordered by Merrymeeting Bay in Woolwich, Maine. Principal Marnie Stevens explains, “We are always fundraising since the fees we charge are below our operating costs, so this donated collection provides an opportunity to bridge a huge funding gap. We’re hoping this auction enables us to complete the locker room construction at the gym, maybe purchase a new van, or perhaps add generators to our facility so that power outages aren’t quite so devastating to our school day. It would be such a blessing if we could reach one or two of these goals with the sale of this unusual estate. We have such high hopes for this exciting event!”
The auction will take place in the Tawara Gym on the Chop Point Campus, which is itself a delight to walk around and visit. Located at 425 Chopps Point Road in Woolwich, public viewing begins at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 5th, with the auction beginning at 2:00 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 Raffle, and a raffle of live lobsters. The snack bar will be open and serving lobster rolls, refreshments and more. There is no “Buyer’s Premium” and items are sold without reserve, with few exceptions.
