BOSTON — Coast Guard units across the Northeast are making preparations Saturday ahead of forecasted storm conditions expected to arrive in our area Sunday into Monday.
Forecasted marine and coastal effects, including wind gusts in excess of 50 knots and seas greater than 20 feet, could pose life threatening conditions for mariners. Mariners are strongly advised to closely monitor the National Weather Service for updated warnings on this storm, and should exercise extreme caution if remaining on the water through the storm.
Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod crews are flying storm tracks and using marine radios to warn offshore boaters of the approaching heavy weather. Listen and download audio here.
Coast Guard Sectors and Stations across New England will maintain response-ready for near-shore search and rescue. Coast Guard Cutters Campbell, Oak, Ocracoke, Sitkinak, and Shrike are preparing for offshore response.
All boaters and those living along coastal communities are urged to secure their small craft and paddle craft, including canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards, due to the expected high winds, heavy seas, and storm surge. If drifting and unmanned, they could set off unnecessary searches and tie-up vital search and rescue resources.
