Center For Maine Contemporary Art Grand Opening

Story by Doug Mills
Rockland, Maine - When I was a boy growing up on the coast of Maine the saying that was most heard was" Camden bu the sea, Rockland by the smell" as Rockland was a fishing town. Now however the saying has changed to "Camden by the sea, Rockland by the arts."  Rockland has been transformed from that coastal fishing and fish processing town to the Mecca for the arts in the state of Maine!

The new CMCA, Center For Maine Contemporary Art, joins the Farnsworth as a world class gallery, setting a foundation for all the artists and galleries that claim Mid-Coast Maine as home.

"Founded in 1952, CMCA is a contemporary arts institution presenting shows throughout the year featuring the work of emerging and established artists with ties to Maine. Rather than showcasing a permanent collection, CMCA offers a venue for living artists to continue Maine’s distinguished arts tradition into the future, providing a balance between ongoing experimentation and an enduring sense of place. In addition, the new CMCA offers a dynamic calendar of events and educational programs for all ages." [http://cmcanow.org]

With the opening of this new gallery in the downtown arts district of Rockland Maine CMCA is creating an ongoing legacy for contemporary art in Maine and working to instill a love of art to the next generation with their ongoing education programs.

Thank you CMCA for your tireless work promoting contemporary art in Maine.

With over 40 years in the arts he brings a wealth of artistic expression to his new designer fashions.  Doug's photos will transport you to a place where life is simple and the unspoiled beauty will take your breath away.
