Portland, Maine - Monique Barrett will be performing in the Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library on Saturday, March 28, 2015 as part of the library’s spring early literacy series, Singing Through Your Day. Parents and caregivers are invited to join Monique to learn fun and simple ways to incorporate singing with their children during all aspects of their daily routines.
Monique Barrett is a Portland-based singer-songwriter and mother of two. She has been performing around Southern Maine for over a decade and her first album, Steps, was released last spring. Monique also has a track on “To the Moon, To the Stars”, which is a benefit album for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. It features songs by Portland-area artists written about or for their children. She keeps her voice in shape by singing with and to her kids every day!
Singing Through Your Day is part of PPL”S Every Child Ready to Read @ Your Library ® early literacy initiative. This parent education initiative stresses that early literacy begins with the primary adult in a child’s life. Developing early literacy skills has a long-term impact on children’s reading achievement and academic success. Reading, playing, talking, singing, and writing are the five practices that stimulate the growth of a child’s brain and make the connections that will become the foundation for reading.
