Camden International Film Festival and Camden Opera House announce
2015 CIFF Selects: a monthly documentary screening series
CIFF's 2014 Audience Award winner WILD HOME returns to Camden!
Camden, Maine - Camden International Film Festival and the Camden Opera House, in partnership with SundanceNow Doc Club, bring CIFF Selects, a monthly documentary screening series, to Camden one Wednesday each month March through August. The series kicks off on Wed, March 25 at 7 PM with CIFF 2014 favorite WILD HOME.
Jack and Robert Schurman’s WILD HOME won the hearts of CIFF’s audience at the tenth festival last September where it played to a sold out crowd for its World Premiere and took home the Dick and Ann Costello Audience Award.
This Dirigo doc tells the story of Bob Miner, a Vietnam Veteran who has found his way back to the
world by rehabilitating abused and abandoned animals deep in the woods of Maine. Along with his wife, Julie, they’ve built a kingdom where they care for lions, tigers, hyenas, kangaroos, black bears, and more than 200 other species of animals.
“We’re excited to bring WILD HOME back to Maine after it played at CIFF last September and to launch this series with Camden Opera House, which is such a great home for our Festival here in Camden” said CIFF’s Founder/Director Ben Fowlie.
““CIFF fills our beautiful venue, and town, with movies that document the most fascinating people and ideas for our age. Ben’s highly cultivated choice of films allows our town to experience and see movies that are usually part of much larger towns or festivals. We are thrilled to enhance our film screenings at the Opera House with this documentary series which will be enjoyed on our new HD high resolution projector and film quality screen” added Kerry Hadley of the Camden Opera House.
This monthly series will include select titles from the SundanceNow Doc Club, an online platform for the world’s best documentaries, including many CIFF alum, which offers our audience the chance to watch these films year-round. SundanceNow Doc Club is the only member-based, advertising-free streaming video service dedicated solely to documentaries. Overseen by resident curator Thom Powers (DOC NYC, Toronto International Film Festival), the Doc Club catalog features hand-picked favorites from festival programmers (Sundance, True/False, etc) as well as guest curators like Ira Glass. Subscribers also receive exclusive member benefits, including free tickets to local screenings and festival premieres.
“"We're thrilled to be partnering with the Camden International Film Festival to bring great documentaries to their community year-round -- both theatrically and on the SundanceNow platform,” added Linda Pan of SundanceNow Doc Club.
Additional CIFF Selects titles will be announced soon. The screenings are held one Wednesday each month: March 25, April 22, May 20, June 17, July 15 and August 19. Q&As with filmmakers, either in person or via skype, to follow select screenings. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased day of show at the Camden Opera House box office.
