Mid-Coast, ME - Throughout this month there are Windjammer events taken place around the Mid-Coast region. These events are great to see historic windjammers that are as old as 140 years old and learning their history. The following are events taken place this month to mark on your calendar.
In Boothbay Harbor is the annual Windjammer Days that include a grand parade of sail, shoreside music and fireworks. This years Windjammers Days take place on June 21 & June 22, 201. For more information on this great event please go to http://www.boothbayharbor.com/windjammer-days/.
The Maine Windjammer Cruises owner/captain Ray Williamson will hold a book signing and open house in Camden Sunday June 12, 2011 from 5 to 7pm. This event includes a book signing of "Keeping The Tradition Alive" by author Ray Williamson, who is also owner and captain and to tour Grace Bailey, the flagship of Maine Windjammers Cruises. June 17 and 18 are special dates as we celebrate the two oldest Windjammers that were built back in 1871. On June 17th is a race between Lewis R. French and Stephen Taber from Camden, Maine and finishing at the mile long Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. These historic vessels can be viewed at the end of the Breakwater from 1 on as the wind is a great factor. Also, on Friday June 17th is a reception, award ceremony and tours at the Pearl Restaurant in Rockland, ME from 4 to 5pm. Former owners, captains, crew and special guests will be there to help us celebrate. From 5 to 6pm the vessels Lewis R. French and Stephen Taber will be open to the public for tours. Finally, there will be day sails of these two vessels on June 18th, 2011 from 10am to 12pm for 30 dollars that will benefit the Maine Maritime Museum.
Issac H. Evans will celebrate being 125 years old at their North End Shipyard wharf in Rockland, ME June 11, 2011 from 5 to 8pm. There will be music, food, boat tours and fun for all.
