Nathaniel Bowditch Outfitting & Season Opener

A crew member and kids for Bowditch's first sail helped to bring the last spar down.

ROCKLAND, ME - On Tuesday, May 24, 2011 the Schooner Nathaniel Bowditch was gettting the finishing touches done by bringing the last spar to be set in place. After a group of kids  brought the spar down the crew set it in place to have the sails put on. Nataniel Bowditch was one of the Schooners in Rockland getting the finishing touches done by their sailing season. Mike a crew member was explaining the history of Stephen Taber thee oldest documented continuous sailing vessel, J&E Riggin and Bowditch to the kids and their teachers. The kids and teachers was on Bowditch for the first sail of the season.

The following morning on Wednesday May 25, 2011 Bowditch set off on their first cruise after being at anchor in Rockland harbor. They sailed out around 11:15am on a great day for sailing the Maine coast.
