BREAKING: Firefighters Battling Multiple Alarm Belfast Potato Factory Fire


Update at 8:36am: 
Pierce Street/Water Street -
Firefighting operations ongoing and crews are working to protect ammonia storage tanks.

BREAKING: Belfast, Maine - Firefighters from several departments are battling massive, multiple alarm potato factory fire, well involved, on Pierce Street in Belfast, Maine.

Hazmat Team requested to the scene.
Belfast High School and East Side Schools are being evacuated. Harbor Hill Nursing Home has initiated their evacuation plan. 
The Route 1 bridge is closed.

Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley says there are no injuries. No word on what caused the fire. School in Belfast has been canceled because of the smoke.

Waldo County Emergency Management Agency advises that Belfast residents shelter in place until otherwise notified. Shelter in Place instructions can be found on our website at: cityofbelfast.org/DocumentCenter
