UPDATE: These closures are now scheduled for the nights of Thursday, August 26th and Wednesday, September 1st. In the event of bad weather, paving would be delayed to the following night.
HANCOCK COUNTY - As the Maine Department of Transportation approaches the end of a summer construction project on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge, the paving contractor has requested several full closures of the bridge to ensure the safety of workers. MaineDOT is accommodating this request and closing the bridge for two four-hour periods next week: from 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18th to 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 19th and from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19th to 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20th. Emergency vehicles will still be allowed to use the bridge during these times. We expect one more full bridge closure in the coming weeks and will issue another press release when we have more details. Paving work accomplished during these bridge closures will help move this project closer to full completion and ensure the safety of our crews and contracting partners while this important work is being done.
MaineDOT thanks the members of the traveling public for their continued patience and understanding during the length of this project.
