As is true with any fire, a quick response saves lives and property. A staffed fire department is able to respond quicker and mitigate the hazards sooner, preventing further fire spread and damage from occurring. Crews were able to contain the fire to the apartment of origin.

Given the time this fire occurred, the situation could have been much worse had it been later in the evening when people were asleep. With this in mind, please make sure your smoke detectors are functioning properly and you know your escape routes in case of an emergency.

Number of Personnel: Estimated 35 firefighters responded to the scene.
Cause is under Investigation, waiting on the State Fire Marshal’s Office to assist.
Call came in at 6:28pm, first unit arrived at 6:32pm.
7 people affected, 2 of the 7 in fire apartment.
7:23pm Update: Fire units are starting to clear the scene, Rockport, South Thomaston are at Rockland station coverage.
6:51pm:Update: Bulk of the fire is knocked down, checking for any extension, great job by firefighters.
