(Rockland, Maine) In Rockland on a cold and mostly clear Saturday evening was the Parade of Lights down Main Street apart of the Festival of Lights Celebration. This year's Parade of Lights involved many colorful and bright floats as well as Santa. There were around 10 to 20 floats in this year's parade down the lined Main Street of people. It was great to see so many people out for the parade. People started lining up on Main Start around 15 minutes before the start. New this year was the parade took the floats down Main Street to the Ferry Terminal and back up, so people can vote for their favorite floats. Some of the floats were Rockland District Middle/Thomaston Grammar School Field Hockey team, Webber, Harvey Company, Rheal Spa and many others. Chad Ridge walked in this year's parade apart of his Right Choices Challenge. It wasn't to bad for this year's parade as temps were in the low to mid 30s. Rockland District Middle/Thomaston Grammar School Field Hockey team won Best Spirit Award. Their float was hauled by Absolute Elegance Limousine of Rockland apart of Schooner Bay Taxi. Also, apart of the parade was the 2010 Maine Lobster Festival Sea Goddess, Emily Benner and the crowned princess. Other things to mention is things went smoothly with no problems.
Seeing all those floats were great as it takes a lot of time to put a float together. I would like to thank all those that had floats in this year's parade. It was my honor to be there to cover this community event put on by Rockland Main Street Inc. You can visit their website at www.rocklandmainstreet.com for more about them and events they put on.
