Augusta - In an on-going effort to address safety and mobility issues along Interstate 295, the Maine Department of Transportation will be providing safety service patrols from Freeport to Scarborough beginning on Monday, December 3rd.
This company, AutoBase, is also being utilized by the Maine Turnpike Authority for emergency breakdown service.
The operators will assist motorists along I-295 from Freeport (Exit 22) to Scarborough (Exit 1) whose vehicles have suffered minor mechanical failure or have been involved in minor crashes.

A list of services includes:
Move vehicles: Expedite quick clearance practices using a push bumper or towing strategy to remove vehicles (vehicle with gross weight of up to 10,000 pound) and large debris from the travel portion of the roadway.
Remove obstacles and objects from the roadway to include debris and other hazards.
Provide fuel up to one gallon.
Provide water to person(s) being assisted or for overheated vehicles.
Change flat tires.
Provide mechanical assistance such as jump starts, minor mechanical repairs, tire inflation.
Assist stranded motorists with communication by allowing calls to repair facilities, other business or individual to assist motorist.
Provide a ride to a safe place or drop-off location to wait if vehicle is disabled.
Clean up minor vehicle fluid spills.
Share information with other responders.
Request and confirm emergency services have been contacted when warranted.
Protect the incident scene, when necessary, with the appropriate temporary traffic control devices.
Assist other responding agencies at the scene such as law enforcement, fire and rescue, Emergency Medical Services and other response agencies as needed.
This safety service patrol will operate on the following schedule:
The weekend following Columbus Day to the week prior to Memorial Day Weekend (32 weeks) Monday - Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The weekend prior to Memorial through the Columbus Day weekend:
Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm.
The operator, AutoBase, has 185 safety vehicles along with 265 professionally trained drivers operating on the Maine Turnpike as well as in New York, Maryland, Washington D.C, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky and Florida.
