Ted Ames is a fisherman, lobsterman, scientist, and historical fisheries ecology researcher from Stonington. In 2005, he was awarded a $500,000 fellowship by the MacArthur Foundation because of his work and writings about the history of the American cod in the Gulf of Maine. Ames believes that the ecological protection of areas where fish reproduce can help to reopen the Gulf of Maine with commercial fish species. He will be sharing his insights about the alewife life cycle during our walk up the stream.
If the water isn't too fierce, the Surry Alewife Committee will be dipping the fish to move them through the culvert.
