Let’s Contra Dance at Revelry for the River on May 8

Thomaston, Maine - Twisted Strings, acoustic duo of Michele Roy on fiddle and Will West on guitar and Irish bazouki, will offer old and new tunes with Celtic roots for contra dancing on Thursday, May 8, from 7:30 to 10 pm at the historic Thomaston Academy on Main Street in Thomaston. Maggie Robinson will call. The steps are easy, but there will be a lesson at 7 pm for beginners.

Contra dancing is a popular tradition in New England and provides the opportunity to burn a few calories in time to the lively music and to meet new folks in an informal setting. It is also permissible to simply observe and enjoy the music.

This event is part of Georges River Land Trust’s Revelry for River series. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door and limited to 80 participants. Refreshments will be served. No partner necessary. There will be door prizes, including best dancer and beginner dancer. All proceeds will be donated to the land trust.

The George River Land Trust’s third season of Revelry for the River includes a full year of diverse activities. Upcoming events include ragtime music in Rockport, the Gardens in the Watershed Tour, folk music in Owls Head and exclusive visits to lesser known watershed and coastal places -- all showcasing the beauty of the Georges River watershed and continuing the celebration of the Land Trust’s conservation success in mid-coast Maine in its 27th year.

Revelry for the River Offers an Afternoon of Pampering

Rockland, Maine - The Georges River Land Trust and the Coppola Salon & Day Spa offer “An Afternoon of Pampering” on Friday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m. The event is part of the Land Trust’s 2013 Revelry for the River. This very special opportunity to enjoy a 30-minute facial, a 30-minute massage and a basic pedicure, followed by a glass of wine or other beverage with delicious hors d’oeuvres, is limited to 6 participants (two groups of three), and both Spa and Land Trust urge early registration.

Participants can choose from either of two sessions: noon to 2:30 p.m. or 2:30 to 5 p.m. The fee is $120 for Land Trust members and $130 for non-members. To register, phone the Land Trust at 594-5166 or online at www.georgesriver.org/revelry.

Coppola Salon & Day Spa owner Christina Coppola Harris opened the salon and day spa in 2007, committed to providing a variety of hair, skin, nail, and body treatments. Its knowledgeable and professional staff is up to date on newest styles, trends and techniques. Stylists take a multitude of classes every year, varying from cutting to creative color. Owner Christina Harris is a Certified Goldwell Color Specialist. In addition to stylists, staff includes a massage therapist, aesthetician, and nail technician.

The George River Land Trust’s 2013 Revelry for the River encompasses a full year of diverse activities. Next on May 8 is an Antiques Appraisal Party, featuring specialist Kaja Veilleux.  Other events include photography, gourmet food and exclusive visits to lesser known watershed and coastal places -- all showcasing the beauty of the St. George River watershed and continuing the celebration of the Land Trust’s conservation success in mid-coast Maine in its 26th year. ROCKLAND, ME - The Georges River Land Trust (GRLT) recently announced the fifth of 18 special events to be held in 2012 as part of Revelry for the River, a celebration of GRLT's 25th anniversary. Daffodil Garden Party is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 from 2-5 pm. Rain date will be Sunday, May 6. The cost is $15 for GRLT members and $20 for non-members. Daffodils are blooming! Over the past 28 years Elinor Klivans has planted thousands of daffodil bulbs in her Camden garden. She has many varieties and each year she adds more. In a setting resembling a smallpark or glen, daffodils bloom in beds, among ferns and under shrubbery. Enjoy a spring afternoon among the blossoms, along with ice tea, lemonade, and her famous homemade cookies. Elinor is an award-winning author of several cookbooks including Big Fat Cookies!
