Governor Paul LePage news conference at the 66th Maine Lobster Festival announcing new legislation including 3 million in promotion of Maine lobster world wide.

Rockland, Maine - This morning Maine's Governor Paul LePage held a news at the 66th Maine Lobster Festival to anounce the new legislation [LD486] that will provide nearly 3 million dollars to promote Maine lobster in Asia, Europe and around the world.  These will not be taxpayer dollars but money raised from the industry.  It is hoped that this advertising will open and expand markets for Maine Lobster world wide.

This was also Milissa Philbrook the 2013 Maine Sea Goddess's first official duty of her reign.

  "August is Lobster Month" in the state of Maine and to celebrate the state will be sending Maine lobster to all of the governors.

Following the news conference Governor LePage was treated to a lobster dish prepared especially for and named after him by Cafe Miranda's  Kerry Altiero  Maine’s 2012 lobster chef of the year.

Maine Governor Proclaims August "Maine Lobster Month" in Celebration of an Abundant Harvest!

Portland, Maine - Governor Paul LePage has signed a proclamation declaring August "Maine Lobster Month".  As a result of Maine's successful lobster conservation effort, the state has hit record harvest levels for the last three years.  The Governor's proclamation will help kick-off a celebration of lobster and the Maine Lobster Promotion Council's Lobster Lovers campaign. The campaign includes promotions with retailers, restaurants, and members of the hospitality industry in Maine and New England. 

"The Lobster industry's bountiful harvest is certainly worth celebrating and encouraging everyone to enjoy this wonderful delicacy throughout the month of August and year-round," said Patrick Keliher, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Marine Resources. "We continue to implement and promote conservation practices that will keep this industry strong."

The governor's proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Maine and lobsters go together in the public mind across America and throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Maine’s lobster industry is one of the State’s oldest industries and maintains its lead as a primary contributor to the Maine economy; and

WHEREAS, Maine’s lobster industry has long been a leader throughout the country in its efforts for long term conservation and commitment to the sustainability of Maine’s lobster fishery; and

WHEREAS, Maine lobster delights the palate with its freshness and flavor and promotes health with its high nutritional value; and

WHEREAS, Maine’s picturesque harbors capture a special quality as colorful lobster buoys bob along the coast, as sturdy lobster boats come and go, as the lobster harvesters work in the pristine, natural environment and haul their traps; and

WHEREAS, Maine’s lobster harvesters, as in early days, still brave the sea with the courage and determination that has made them models of independence and self reliance,

WHEREAS, Maine lobster harvesters often bring in more lobsters in August than any other month in the year,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul R. LePage, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim August 1st through August 31st as MAINE LOBSTER MONTH
