The Open House is a relaxed and informal opportunity to explore Yarmouth's nonprofit music school, meet the teachers, and get information about lessons, groups, jams for all ages.

The 13-week Winter Session of lessons, classes, and ensembles begins Monday, December 9. Registration is now being accepted.

North Yarmouth, Maine - On September 8, 2013, 317 Main Community Music Center presents the 9th Annual Henryfest, outdoors at beautiful Skyline Farm, 95 The Lane, North Yarmouth, Maine. The festival features music from Anger, Walsh, Gordy & Doty; The Jason Spooner Band; The Forge; The Diana Hansen Band; Cumberland Crossing, and a 317 Main Student Ensemble. Tickets at the gate are $20 per individual or $40 for a family ticket. The event is open to all ages - children are encouraged! All proceeds will benefit 317 Main Community Music Center, the nonprofit music school located in Yarmouth.

The Festival features an active children's area with face painting, an instrument petting zoo, temporary tattoos, a book corner, a dress-up area, and more. Henryfest always features a popular Pie Table, offering a myriad of donated home-baked pies sold by the slice. The local food vendors featured at this year's festival include Otto Pizza, Taco Trio, Toots Ice Cream, Kids Gone Raw, and Allagash Brewing.

Headliners Darol Anger, Joe Walsh, Grant Gordy & Karl Doty represent a string band super-group! The resumes and the musical chemistry of this newly formed quartet are equally impressive. Darol Anger (fiddle) and Joe Walsh (mandolin) both teach at Berklee College of Music and have toured and recorded with a who's who of the acoustic world. Grant Gordy burns bright as the young guitarist in the David Grisman Quintet, and bassist Karl Doty was a founding member of Joy Kills Sorrow and is often seen backing up the likes of Heather Masse. Expect an afternoon of inspiring, delightful improvisational American string band music, roots, jazz, bluegrass, and more.

The Jason Spooner Band ranks among the brightest rising stars of the roots rock scene today. Spooner has received prestigious accolades for his songwriting talents from Mountain Stage, South By Southwest Music Festival, The Kerrville Folk Fest New Folk Competition,The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and more. The Spooner Band are crowd favorites at NH's Meadowbrook Pavilion, appearing there with Jackson Browne and most recently, with John Mayer. Their infectious acoustic rock draws upon the richness of American folk music traditions with outstanding songwriting.

The Forge is Maeve Gilchrist (harp, vocal), Anna Colliton (bodhran), Cara Frankowicz (fiddle), and Nicole Rabata (Irish flute) - North America's most powerful new traditional Irish band. The four women have come together from both sides of the Altantic to create a stir on the American trad scene, performing a strong blend of traditional and contemporary styles. In addition to her busy touring schedule, Nicole Rabata teaches flute at 317 Main Community Music Center.

The Diana Hansen Band is led by 317 Main vocal instructor Diana Hansen. The band performs a soulful blend of the best of contemporary singer/songwriters with some serious jazz chops and stellar originals. Hansen cites a wide range of influences from Joni Mitchell to Neil Young.

Cumberland Crossing is a bluegrass band featuring some of the top pickers from throughout Southern Maine: Ronnie Gallant (guitar, mandolin), Skip King (banjo), Bill Holden (dobro), and Erica Kingston (bass). The band features searing guitar, banjo, mandolin, dobro, and bass on a solid mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass.

The line-up at HenryFest is always kicked off with a performance by one of 317's most accomplished student groups.

317 Main Community Music Center Welcomes New Development Director

Yarmouth, Maine - Molly Gallagher Burk of Cape Elizabeth recently joined 317 Main Community Music Center as Director of Development. She will work closely with the 317 staff and Board of Directors to guide fundraising activities at the Yarmouth-based nonprofit music center.

As Development Director, Burk will work to identify opportunities for individuals, foundations, and businesses to invest in the organization’s mission.

She brings a strong background in development and communications to the organization. Burk previously held positions at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Bowdoin College, and Sweetser. She earned a B.S. in communications at Boston University and an M.B.A. in organizational and environmental sustainability at Antioch University New England.

Burk's appointment represents an expansion of the 317 Development Office at the thriving nonprofit where her work will be complemented by Grant Coordinator Amy Kuhn.

Headliner Aoife O'Donovan (pronounced EEF-ah) grew up in a musical family, immersed in folk music. A hugely talented singer and songwriter, she studied contemporary improvisation at the New England Conservatory of Music in her hometown of Boston. Aoife is a founding member of the Boston-based newgrass sensations Crooked Still, and is also a member of the folk-noir trio Sometymes Why. Most recently she recorded and performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Stuart Duncan and Chris Thile as a guest vocalist on The Goat Rodeo Sessions.  She has maintained a wide variety of side projects and collaborations, working with numerous other artists including Ollabelle, Karan Casey and Seamus Egan, Jerry

The Stray Birds draw upon the richness of American folk music traditions with outstanding songwriting that soars in three-part harmony. The versatile trio plays fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and upright bass. Raised on music in the farmland of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, The Stray Birds were born of a compelling collaboration between two unique writers and vocalists: the pure, luxurious voice of Maya de Vitry and Oliver Craven's richness of tone and depth of delivery. Grounding their sound in the unshakeable groove of bassist Charles Muench, The Stray Birds are a trio of captivating chemistry and sensitive musicality.

This Way is an alternative country band based in Portland, Maine. 317 Main instructor Andrew Martelle plays fiddle and mandolin with the band. With influences ranging from Waylon Jennings to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to Paul Simon, the band's sound is laced with thick vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, foot stomping rhythm and down-home grit. This Way was named Best Roots Act of 2011 by The Portland Phoenix and nominated for Best Roots/Americana/Folk Act and Best Maine Act of the Year by the 2012 New England Music Awards. Their new CD is due out in September.

Cumberland Crossing is a bluegrass band featuring some of the top pickers from throughout Southern Maine. The Lay-Z-Gait Band plays western swing and features 317 instructors Tom Whitehead on guitar and Andy Happel on fiddle. Two 317 student emsembles made up largely of very talented teenagers will perform at the festival, playing a wide range of music ranging from traditional bluegrass to acoustic arrangements of their favorite contemporary rock songs.

The four international voice teachers of the 317 Main International Voice Seminar will present an evening of vocal pieces, ranging from jazz to classical Irish to selections from musical theater. Giuppi Paone (Italy), Elizabeth Goell (Ireland), and 317 instructors Kathy Slack and Julie Goell will perform, accompanied by Jed Wilson and Nancy 3. Hoffman, at Higgins Hall at North Yarmouth Academy, 168 Main Street in Yarmouth at 7 pm. Admission is $12 for the general public and $8 for students and senior citizens.

The evening will open with Guippi Paone, accompanied by Jed Wilson on piano with a program titled ”When Jazz Happens on the Way to the Forum." They will be followed by Elizabeth Goell, accompanied by Nancy 3. Hoffman on piano with "Tales of a Well Travelled Piano." Julie Goell and Kathy Slack will perform prior to each set.

The International Voice Seminar is taking place July 13 - 15 at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. Students wilreceive basic instruction in Jeanette LoVetri’s Somatic Voicework,™ which teaches projection and safe, proper use of chest, head and mixed registers according to choice of repertoire. In addition to vocal work, the Seminar includes instruction in movement, music theory, Jazz history, improvisation and laryngeal anatomy.

There will be a free showcase of the students' work on Saturday, July 14 at 7 pm in the Cafe at 317 Main Street in Yarmouth. The public is welcome to attend.
