What: Public Meeting #2 Regarding Outer Congress Street, Phase II
When: Tuesday, March 25, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Where: The Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Avenue, Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine – The City’s Department of Public Services is hosting its second public meeting on March 25th to discuss phase II improvements to Outer Congress Street. City staff and its consultants will present a refined set of ideas related to safety, access and aesthetics. The City is seeking the public's input and participation in developing the final plan for implementation beginning later in 2014.
In 2012, the Maine Department of Transportation and the City of Portland collaborated on the paving of Congress Street from Stevens Avenue to Johnson Road and implemented a new street configuration. The City has funding to build upon that work by constructing additional traffic, pedestrian, bicycle, bus stop and streetscape changes. The intent of the additional changes will be to increase overall safety for all users of the street, enhance access along and across the street and improve roadway aesthetics.
At the first meeting in January, more than 50 attendees provided invaluable input into identifying issues and opportunities along Outer Congress St. as well as feedback on some preliminary ideas for changes.
