Bowdoin Announces Recipients of 2025 Common Good, Alumni Council Awards

The Common Good Award, selected by the Bowdoin College Board of Trustees, and the Alumni Service Award and Distinguished Educator Award, chosen by the Alumni Council, recognize members of the Bowdoin community for their exemplary achievement and dedication.

Common Good Award

George A. Khaldun ‘73 has devoted his considerable skill as an administrator, expertise as an educator, and passion as a reformer to bettering the lives of

young people in distressed communities through his quest to break the cycle of poverty in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood and in other urban communities throughout the country. For his efforts, Khaldun has been selected by the Bowdoin College Board of Trustees to receive the 2025 Common Good Award.

Alumni Service Award

For his long and outstanding devotion to the College, William Bao Bean ‘95, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Alumni Service Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Bowdoin Alumni Council.

Distinguished Educator Award

For his extraordinary contributions demonstrating remarkable vision, resilience, and innovation during his career as a teacher, Malcolm W. Gauld ’76, P’14 has been chosen to receive the 2025 Distinguished Educator Award, recognizing outstanding achievement in education by a Bowdoin alumnus or alumna in any field and at any level of education.

The awards will be presented during Reunion Weekend (May 29–June 1, 2025).
