BREAKING: Firefighters Working Fisher's 1st Alarm

5:43pm Update: According to Rockland Fire Department, Rockland Fire & EMS was notified of the alarm at 50 Gordon Drive (Fisher Engineering, at noon time today. Upon arrival of the first due companies, light smoke was visible from the roof of the large industrial warehouse. Rockland Car 1 struck a first alarm assignment due to conditions presenting from the outside.

Workers on scene stated that there
was a fire within a dust collecting system and the sprinkler system had activated. Heavy smoke conditions were found upon entering the building. C- Shift members under the direction of Assistant Chief Ken Elwell, made their way to the area of origin and found active fire within the large dust collecting system. While the fire was contained to the system with no extension into the rest of the building, overhaul of the fire took considerable time and effort by all involved. The fire was extinguished with about 500 gallons of water along with an unknown quantity of water from the sprinkler system.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to conduct a thorough investigation and we believe the cause to be mechanical in nature.

1. Early notification of the fire helped minimize the damage within the building, as well as evacuate the employees safely.

2. The extent of the fire and the size of the building called for additional companies to aid in the extinguishment of the fire. Our mutual aid system in Knox County allows all of our firefighters to operate more safely and efficiently.

3. The Knox Regional Communications Center did an outstanding job coordinating all the incoming companies and radio traffic.
