UPDATE 9:40am Sunday Morning: According Rockland Fire Department chief, Knox Regional Communications Center started receiving multiple phone calls at 11:03 PM in reference to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving a car-vs-tree with a telephone pole and wires down in the roadway. Callers were also reporting the driver as being deceased. Rockland PD arrived about a minute after the report with fire & EMS units arriving three minutes later. We found a telephone pole snapped in half, multiple low hanging wires, and a pickup truck with heavy damage to the front end/passenger compartment. Inside the vehicle was one patient who was unresponsive and trapped due to the heavy damage. The “Jaws of Life” were needed to extricate the patient from the vehicle. LifeFlight was called while the fire and EMS personnel were extricating the patient from the wreckage and the patient was transported by Rockland Fire & EMS to Pen Bay Medical Center where LifeFLight transferred the patient to a trauma center. CMP was called to the scene, replaced the broken pole, and restored power to the South End within a few hours of the crash. No other reports of injuries.
Due to the heavy damage of the vehicle and the patient being trapped, the Jaws of Life were needed for extrication. Rockland Fire & EMS had the patient extricated within 12 minutes of arrival.
RPD on scene at 23:04 (11:04 PM) with Rockland Rescue 2 arrived at 23:07:26 (11:07 PM)
Rockland Squad 3, Rockland Rescue 2, and Rockland Car 1 responded.
UPDATE: 11:35pm: Rockland EMS enroute to Pen Bay emergency statue where Life flight will meet them.
