October Coffeehouse

Portland-based Eric McDonald, backed by Bethany Waickman will be making their Midcoast debut at the Camden Public Library Coffeehouse on Thursday, October 5 at 7:00 pm. The duo play mandolin and guitar, with vocals.

It is the apex of a decade performing and teaching traditional music in New England. The duets are a diverse set of tunes, including some original compositions, some recent ones by modern musicians such as Phil Cunningham and Keith Murphy, and some very old traditional material. An infatuation with the troubadours of the British folk revival, particularly artists such as Tony Cuffe, Andy Irvine and Nic Jones led to the collection of ballads and to a partial shedding of a sideman’s skin. When pieced together, the album is a compelling pictograph of Eric’s offerings, with the sparse playing and bare arrangements making for a mellow but in no way jaded sound.
