ROCKLAND, ME - On Friday November 25th Rockland Festival of Lights kicked off with Santa Claus arriving by Coast Guard boat at Middle Pier/Buoy Park around noontime, and Christmas lobster trap tree lighting in Merrill Park. Rockland Main Street Inc. hold these two events yearly along with Parade of Lights Saturday evening.
At noontime Santa Claus arrived by Coast Guard boat with a huge crowd waiting on shore for him to greet all the kids that came out. After arriving at Middle Pier/Buoy Park Santa Claus had a hard time getting to his awaiting horse-drawn carriage to take him to his workshop. Once Santa Claus was at his workshop kids had a chance to tell him want they wanted for Christmas. It was nice seeing all the people who came out at noontime for his arrival with their kids.
In the evening the tree lighting took place with a great crowd to see Santa Claus, leaders of Rockland Main Street Inc, a few kids, 2011 Sea Goddess, Kristen Sawyer and runner up, Kelly L. There was a lot of people packed into Merrill Park for the annual tree lighting. During the tree lighting there was cookies and hot coca for all to enjoy.
Next for the Festival of Lights in Rockland is the Parade of Lights (Between Park & Summer), Share the Wonder (Farnsworth) on Saturday than breakfast with Santa Claus on Sunday. You can find more information and events scheduled by going to Rockland Main Street Inc website at www.rocklandmainstreet.com.
