Boat Tour Will Explore History and Mystery of Boothbay Area Lighthouses

 The lighthouse on Burnt Island in Boothbay Harbor, where tour participants will make landfall to explore the island during the Maine Lighthouse Adventure with Red Cloak Haunted History Tours and MSAD 11 Adult Education. Scheduled for Saturday, May 21, a portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to benefit the restoration campaign at the historic lighthouse. The tour will include a boat trip to five lighthouses (weather permitting), as well as landfall at Burnt Island.

Spice up your celebration of spring with an adventure by land and sea exploring the history and mystery of lighthouses in the Boothbay Harbor area on an exclusive tour with The Lady in The Red Cloak, hosted by MSAD 11 Adult Education.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to benefit the restoration campaign at the historic Burnt Island lighthouse.

Departing on Saturday, May 21 aboard the 47-foot excursion vessel Novelty in Boothbay Harbor, the one-hour cruise through calm inshore waters will pause offshore of Ram Island Light, Cuckolds Lighthouse, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Monhegan Light and Seguin Island Light (some locations are weather permitting).

Learn the stories behind these iconic beacons; about the lives of some of the keepers and their families - daily routines, traditions and hardships, as well as the legends and haunts.

The voyage finishes with a dramatic turn as the group make landfall on historic Burnt Island to explore the area around Burnt Island Light, built in 1821 and still a working lighthouse. The group will have exclusive access to the island as your qualified guide leads you back in time, exploring the island and learning about the historically restored facilities, including the keeper's residence and the lighthouse.

The tour will be guided by Sally Lobkowicz, the mysterious Lady in the Red Cloak from Red Cloak Haunted History Tours.

Participants will return to shore with a new and very personal understanding of the lighthouses, and the people who manned them. Stories will be told of the lives saved by these humble keepers while enduring personal privation and their own physical limits as they offered those who went to the sea in ships a hopeful light toward home.

Tour Quill’s End Farm

Penobscot, Maine - The public is invited to tour Quill’s End Farm in Penobscot on Friday, July 18 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. as part of the summer farm tour series organized by Blue Hill Heritage Trust and the Blue Hill Co-op.  Participants will have the opportunity to explore this family farm on which the Trust holds a conservation easement.

Quill’s End Farm is a 105-acre farm located at 192 Front Ridge Rd. (Rt. 15) in Penobscot.  Owners Heather and Phil Retberg and their three children raise grass-fed beef and lamb, pastured pork, and duck using rotational grazing methods.  They also sell raw milk and eggs.  Products are available at their farm store or through Farm Drop and the Deer Isle buying club.
