Augusta, Maine - Three out-of-state companies, all considering the possibility of doing business here in Maine, are planning to visit the state later this month.The anticipated visits are a direct result of connections made by the LePage Administration during the recent U.S. Manufacturing Summit, held late last month in Orlando, Florida.
Governor Paul R. LePage and his senior economic development team, including, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner George Gervais, attended the summit, which was sponsored by Walmart and the National Retail Federation.
"I am very pleased to hear that at least three companies are planning to visit our great state in the very near future," said Governor LePage. "Their interest in Maine only strengthens my resolve to continue pushing for policies to improve our economic competitiveness. I hope these visits are the first of many."
The summit focused on manufacturing and supply chains in the United States, as well as Wamart's 10-year commitment to buy more "Made in the USA" products.
"Companies are recognizing that Maine is open for business and serious about attracting new revenue," said DECD Commissioner George Gervais. "Eliminating red tape and unnecessary regulations and reducing the cost of doing business will continue to help us attract more private investment and create new opportunities for Maine people."
