EMMC to Celebrate National Hospital Week by Cleaning up Chapin Park

Bangor, Maine - In what has become an annual tradition to celebrate National Hospital Week and kick off summer, EMMC employees are once again coming together to clean up and beautify Bangor’s Chapin Park. This year’s Chapin Park Cleanup Day is scheduled for Friday, May 16 with a rain date of Friday, May 23.

“Chapin Park is right in our neighborhood,” says Randy Hussey, CHFM, CFPS, Fire Protection and Life Safety Officer. “The park is a great community resource, and we want to have it looking as good as possible.”

Employees will pick up trash, spread mulch, and plant flowers at the park, which is heavily used throughout the summer and is the location for the annual Chapin Park Block Party, a tradition that has brought together local businesses and community members since 1994.

“We enjoy the opportunity to give back each year,” adds Hussey. “EMMC is always seeking opportunities to be a good community partner, and this event is one way for our employees to make a difference. It will be great to spend some time outside after what has been one of the longest winters I can remember.”

National Hospital Week, which was first recognized in 1921 in Chicago, is being celebrated on the week of May 11. This year, the celebration is focused on the compassion, innovation, and dedication at the center of hospitals.

EMMC to Celebrate National Hospital Week with Free Health Screenings

Bangor, Maine - Keeping track of blood pressure and other basic health information is one of the most
important things consumers can do to take control of their health. Eastern Maine Medical Center is celebrating National Hospital Week by holding a free blood pressure and body mass index screening event intended to make it easier for people to know where they stand.

The screening clinic will be held on Thursday, May 16 from 1-3 pm at the EMMC Healthcare Mall on Union Street. According to EMMC Wellness director Debi McCann, RN, the event is a perfect way to celebrate National Hospital Week.

“We know that knowledge is power when it comes to wellness,” she says. “National Hospital Week is a time when EMMC wants to empower people to think about their health status and make healthy changes. This screening clinic is the perfect opportunity for folks to meet the wellness team and learn something about their health.”
