United States Coast Guard Barque Eagle Arrives In Rockland, Welcoming Ceremony

Rockland, Maine - The tall ship, United States Coast Guard Barque Eagle arrived Friday afternoon in the beautiful coastal Maine city of Rockland on August 1st, 2014. Barque Eagle is a training vessel, training cadets skills that they will need to know in the Coast Guard.

After arriving in Rockland, official Coast Guard City, the Maine Lobster Festival held a welcoming ceremony where Barque Eagle was formally welcomed. City leaders, police chief, acting fire chief, Coast Guard top brass were among those who attended the ceremony held on the main stage at 4pm. Chuck Kruger, Maine Lobster Festival president, was the lead speaker with others such as the admiral of the Barque Eagle, the Rockland mayor and Chris Rector speaking on behalf of Angus King who couldn't be there.

This was a great ceremony welcoming the Coast Guard's Barque Eagle to the city and festival. You can tour this beautiful sailing, training tall ship on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The location of the tours are at the Coast Guard base at the end of Tilson Avenue in downtown Rockland, Maine. Please come on down to meet the cadets and tour the vessel.

Eagle serves as a seagoing classroom for approximately 175 cadets and instructors from the U.S. Coast

COAST GUARD CITY RE-CERTIFICATION CELEBRATION 

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2013 AT MAINE LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM, ONE PARK DRIVE IN ROCKLAND FROM 2-4 PM 

The Rockland Coast Guard City Committee has announced that it has received official notification of recertification as a designated Coast Guard City through 2018. The acceptance letter was issued by the office of The Commandant of the United States Coast Guard and received by Mayor Will Clayton. 

Signed by Admiral R.J. Papp, Jr. it reads in part “I deeply appreciate the City of Rockland’s continued support of our Coast Guard men and women stationed in the Rockland area. I am pleased to inform you that Rockland has been recertified “A Coast Guard City” in recognition of that support.”

The process to become designated is a long and arduous one and requires renewal every 5 years. “There are only 14 designated Coast Guard Cities in the entire United States, and we are very honored to have achieved this certification.” said Dot Black, co-chair of the Coast Guard City Committee. “We appreciate the continued support of the City of Rockland and their partnership in recognizing the importance of Coast Guard Station Rockland and the men and women who serve.”
