Rockland, Maine - Two award-winning authors, George C. Daughan and James L. Nelson, will help us celebrate the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the War of 1812.

George Daughan, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a university history professor, has written If by Sea, a definitive history of the founding of the U.S. Navy from the American Revolution to the War of 1812, and 1812: The Navy’s War, the story of the war in which a tiny team of American seamen and privateers took on the mighty Royal Navy and won.
James Nelson, a former professional sailor and author of 15 works of maritime history and historical fiction, has written George Washington’s Secret Navy, about the small fleet of schooners that George Washington established after he took command of the Continental Army, and With Fire and Sword, about the early days of the American Revolution culminating in the Battle of Bunker Hill. James Nelson is currently writing a book about the naval action on the Great Lakes during the War of 1812.
The program, co-sponsored by the Rockland Public Library and the Rockland Historical Society, will be held in the Friends’ Room of the Rockland Public Library. Refreshments will be served and the authors will have copies of their books for sale.
