BANGOR, Maine - Rod Ghanayem broke a 1-1 deadlock with his second goal of the season in the 45th minute to lift Husson past Colby College in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Boucher Field.
Colby (1-3-1) jumped on the board early when Jeffrey Rosenberg took a cross from Cam Clouse and lofted the ball into the left corner of the net as the Mules lead 1-0 at the 10:32 mark.
The game remained in favor of the Mules at 1-0 into the 27th minute before Husson's (1-3-2) Josh Bellomo unleashed a powerful shot into the upper corner of the net in the 28th minute for the equalizer.
The clinching score came at the 44:29 mark when Ian Lee took a shot that bounced off the goal post and deflected off Miguel Caballero to Ghanayem, who buried the game winner past the Mules' keeper to give the Eagles their first victory over the Mules in four years. The goal also provided first-year Head Coach Gavin Penny with the first collegiate victory of his career.
"I thought the guys were fantastic tonight," said Penny. "We really tried to impose our game on them and did a fantastic job to show great character after being down one goal to pull ourselves back into the game. I think the boys proved a point to themselves a little bit tonight, but I got to tip my hat off to the leadership team because they were absolutely fantastic and represented us well."
Cody Gross earned the win after registering one save in the net for the Eagles, while Dan Carlson and Stanley Clarke split time in the Mules' cage. They combined to make no saves.
Husson resumes North Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Maine-Farmington with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. Colby returns to action on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. home NESCAC contest with Trinity (Conn.).
