Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand will host a special event honoring veterans on Sunday, May 25 at 3 pm. The event, a benefit for the Hancock County Technical Center, is an annual celebration of our local veterans and their service. Admission is by donation at the door. All proceeds will help HCTC students attend the national SkillsUSA competition held in June in Kansas City.
State Senator Brian Langley is the host of the event. The program opens with a local color guard presenting the colors, and includes a screening of the Wreaths Across America film created by Ben Speed’s HCTC students and patriotic music performed by TEMPO – The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for young musicians – led by Rebecca Edmondson. Selected local veterans will be recognized and honored for their service. Sponsors of this HCTC event are Darlings of Ellsworth and Darlings of Bangor, NAPA Auto Parts, and Remax Hill and Harbors Realty. Media partners are WNSX and the Ellsworth American.
Wreaths Across America, founded by Worcester Wreath owner Morrill Worcester, is dedicated to ensuring that every veteran’s grave has a wreath. They have been traveling to Arlington Cemetery from Maine for 20 years. Remember, Honor, Teach, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington, as well as at veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
