ROCKPORT, Maine - On Sunday, June 1 at 4:00PM at the Rockport Opera House, Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School will present the 15th Annual Odeon Spring Concert. The performance is free and open to the public.
Odeon was founded in 2000 and merged with Bay Chamber in 2006. Since that time it has expanded to three ensembles, featuring musicians from our surrounding communities from age 9 to adult. Originally begun as a string ensemble, Odeon Symphony and Odeon Adult Orchestras have winds and brass sections in addition to all the string groups.
Odeon conductor, Deirdre McClure, took over leadership of the group in 2011 and says that this spring’s concert “demonstrates the progress these ensembles have made over the past few years”. Featured on the program are works by John Williams (Star Wars) and several classical composers.
In the summer of 2013, faculty member, Jeff Weinberger founded the ukulele instruction program at Bay Chamber. In the short course of 10 months the program has grown exponentially and this concert marks the debut of the Bay Chamber Ukulele Ensemble. They will play a variety of repertoire sure to please all tastes of music.
Registration for music lessons and classes for Summer and Fall sessions at the Music School is open. For more information about the Odeon Spring Concert or any of Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School’s offerings, please call 207-236-2823 or visit www.baychamberconcerts.org.
