Restorative Justice Mentor Training To Be Held at URock in June

Rockland, Maine - The Restorative Justice Project promotes fundamental change in the justice system and in schools, seeking accountability and reintegration of offenders, support and healing for victims, and renewal and safety for communities. RJP is looking for mentors for residents at the Belfast Reentry Center and for youth in our Restorative Conferencing Program. If you might like to spend an hour a week helping someone have a second chance, please join us for an info session about training to be a Restorative Justice Mentor.
There will be an introductory information session at University College at Rockland (4th floor Breakwater Building) on Thursday, June 5, from 6-8:30pm. A light supper will be provided.

If you like what you hear in the first session, continue the rest of the training on Thursday, June 12, 6-8:30pm (potluck supper) and Thursday, June 19, 6-8:30pm (potluck supper).

Please plan to attend all sessions if you'd like to mentor. For more information or to RSVP, contact Hanlon Kelley at hanlon@rjpmidcoast.org, or 338-2742 x103.

Formed in February 2005, The Restorative Justice Project of the Midcoast provides mentoring for adult and juvenile offenders in Knox and Waldo Counties in conjunction with the Maine Coast Regional Reentry Center, as well as an innovative process for dealing with behavior issues in the schools statewide. The focus on offender accountability, including the impact of the offense on the victim and community, has resulted in significantly decreased recidivism, healing of victims, and transformed lives - rarities within the traditional criminal justice system.
