Formed in February 2005, The Restorative Justice Project of the Midcoast provides mentoring for adult and juvenile offenders in Knox and Waldo Counties in conjunction with the Maine Coast Regional Reentry Center, as well as an innovative process for dealing with behavior issues in the schools statewide. The focus on offender accountability, including the impact of the offense on the victim and community, has resulted in significantly decreased recidivism, healing of victims, and transformed lives - rarities within the traditional criminal justice system.
