Camden/Rockport, Maine - Herbalist Betsy-Ann “Betz” Golon will lead a presentation on Early American Herbs at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, May 27 at 12:00 noon.
Betz will share a historic perspective on the changing use of an American household’s "herbal arsenal." From medicinal to culinary, the uses for many herbs have changed drastically since the colonial period. Golon will demonstrate practical uses for herbs dating back to the 18th century and present some rather unusual herbs with interesting usage histories.
Betz has served the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Community as a teacher for two decades. As herbalist and manager of Herb and Vine at Common Folk Farm, she creates herbal products for museums, botanical gardens, and L.L. Bean. She also works on honorarium as herbalist for George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.
This talk is part of the Spring Lecture Series at Merryspring, sponsored by The First. Admission to Tuesday Talks is free for members of Merryspring, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members.
Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden.
