Rockland, Maine - The Draken Harald Hafagre, largest Viking Ship built in modern times, is coming to Rockland, Maine July 22-25, 2018.
Launched in 2012, the Draken Harald Hafagre famously crossed the Atlantic from Norway to Canada in 2016, then sailed up the St Lawrence, into the Great Lakes, and down to New York in an epic voyage worthy of a Viking saga.
The Draken is undertaking an east coast tour during the summer of 2018 and with assistance by Allen Insurance and Financial will be visiting Rockland Sunday July 22- Wednesday July 25.,
There will be public tours of the vessel ($12 adults, $6 children) Monday July 23-Wednesday July 25 as well as a free shore-side exhibit open to all exploring the history of the Vikings, the story of their vessels and the Draken in particular, the Atlantic crossing, and the science and ecology of the North Atlantic. Details on hours of operation will follow ASAP.
In addition to the shore village and the vessel tours, there will be a showing of a documentary about the Atlantic crossing Monday, July 23 at 7pm at the Strand Theatre - Rockland, Maine and a lecture by the Draken's Captain Bjorn Ahlander at 7pm on Tuesday July 24 (location TBD).
