Kittery, Maine- As a prelude to the 4th annual Django By The Sea Gypsy Jazz Festival, The Dance Hall presents the incredible Argentinian Gypsy Jazz guitarist Gonzalo Bergara on Friday, August 3rd at 8 p.m. Bergara’s music, called “the best thing that has happened to Gypsy Jazz in the last 20 years” by none other than the Samois Django Reinhardt Festival, has been heard around the world, from the US to Croatia to Brazil to Russia. This is his first time playing on the Seacoast.
Gonzalo Bergara has emerged a virtuoso composer and lead guitarist, mixing a cascade of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina, to forge his own style of progressive Gypsy Jazz and is recognized as one of the best Gypsy Jazz players of his generation. His music is heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France, as well as traditional jazz and the music of Bergara's true home, Buenos Aires. With 9 albums under his belt, and more than 100 shows a year, Gonzalo presents a mix of his own compositions and classics from the Gyspy Jazz repertoire.
"One of the best guitar players in the universe."
Charlie Baty
"Gonzalo Bergara is a phenom in the truest sense of term. He proves beyond any doubt that the truth of the Blues is in the soul. He is tasteful, poignant and deeply moving in his guitar work. Thank God here."
