Rockland, Maine -  The U.S.S. Hue City (CG 66) will anchor in Rockland for the 71st Maine Lobster Festival.

The U.S.S. Hue City is a Ticonderoga-class, guided-missile cruiser named after the Battle of Hue that was fought during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War. The ship was built by Ingalls Shipbuilding and was commissioned on September 14, 1991, by the U.S. Navy in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Four gas turbine engines can propel the ship at over 32 knots. A crew of 33 officers, 27 chief petty officers, and approximately 340 enlisted sailors operate the U.S.S. Hue City.

On March 11, 1993, the U.S.S. Hue City left its home port of Mayport, Florida, for its first deployment to the Mediterranean as the Air Warfare Commander for the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group. During that deployment the ship was responsible for air surveillance and aircraft control. The ship went on to have multiple deployments to the Mediterranean.

In September 2001 the U.S.S. Hue City joined the U.S.S. George Washington Carrier Battle Group off the coast of New York in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

On August 20, 2004, the U.S.S. Hue City was deployed with the U.S.S. Saipan Expeditionary Strike Group in support of the Global War on Terror. The ship went on to be deployed several times in support of Maritime Security Operations and the Global War on terror.

In January 2010 the U.S.S. Hue City was deployed to the Middle East with the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower. The ship would go on to have several Middle East deployments.

As in previous years, tours of the vessel will be available during festival week. Tours are currently scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 2, and Friday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These dates and times are subject to change.
