Ellsworth, Maine - On Wednesday, December 7th at 2 pm, The Grand presents another in their series of high-definition simulcast performances from the best of British theatre – the Royal Shakespeare Company's electric production of the Bard's classic “King Lear,” featuring Antony Sher in a career-highpoint.
Tickets for this General Admission presentation are $18 for Adults, $16 for Seniors, $15 for Grand Members, $13 for Students and $10 for Youth (12&under) and are available at The Grand Box Office, by phone (207) 667-9500, or online at www.grandonline.org.
King Lear has ruled for many years. As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom amongst his children, living out his days without the burden of power. A proud man, he allows vanity to cloud his judgment, believing that he can relinquish the crown, but enjoy the same authority and respect he has always known. Misjudging his children’s loyalty he soon finds himself stripped of all the trappings of state, wealth and power he had taken for granted.
So bring a friend and share the experience of seeing one of the world’s finest theaters with a star turn that prompted The Guardian’s Michael Billington to declare “Sher shores up his place in Shakespeare royalty!”
